There is a Rumbling Park (A Mill Green) at east prevent of Dollar. A town Tillicoultry is about 5 miles to the west of Dollar town. Alva is further west. Dollar was a page town of Scotish sinologist James Legge, the translator of The Chinese Classics. A Chinese scholar Wang Tao lived around Dollar from either 1870-1872, he wrote 2 travel notes all about Dollar town within his book "Jottings from Carefree Travel". A noted Esperantist William Auld, twice nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature, sleep in Dollar. Major attraction around Dollar is the 500 years old Castle Campbell in which Queen Mary of Scotland when sleep in 16th century. A hike to the castle occurs as vigorous ascent through the super picturesque Dollar Glen. There exists as well the road to the top for the less industrious. A second noted Dollar "son" was a discoverer of the vacuum flask, James Dewar, world health organization was a pupil at the town's renowned training institution, Dollar Academy, which was founded within 1818 by the legacy from either the indigene, Captain John McNabb.
